WIP Wednesday - Dishcloths

For a Christmas gift for all the ladies in my family, I thought I would make a week's worth of dishcloths. I like working on them because they're fast, small, and I don't necessarily need to carry around a pattern. Just in the car ride to and from the mountains, I can knock off 2 or 3 of them, as long as Hubs does all the driving. So far I've made 17 of them, all in various colours. Most are a basic pattern, but I'm trying to make some picture cloths as well.

In all, I'll need 35 for gifts, 42 if I want to keep some for myself.

Knit dishcloths are fantastic. They make fantastic scrubbers due to the stitches, but are gentle on dishes and cookware.

I haven't tried getting 2 cloths out of one ball of cotton yet, as they seem to use just over half. But, maybe mine will be made with colourful leftovers.

Head on over to Tami's Amis and Other Creations for other WIP Wednesday fun!

Oooh, I can just picture the incredibly colourful ones you can make with the leftovers! I really feel like I should give dishcloths a go, I've never made one!

Wow, that's ambitious. But I agree on the leftovers...you could do the border in a different color...the diagonal ones you've got there could look great with different colored scraps.

Wow, that's a lot of dishcloths so far, and they look lovely. I'm with pinkundine, I look forward to the "colorful leftover" ones, too. Those cotton yarns always come in interesting coordinating colourways, I'm sure you could work up some really awesome combinations.

What an awesome gift idea! I've knitted exactly one dishcloth, but clearly I need to get on board with more. Thanks for the inspiration!

The ones made up of the scraps might turn out to steal the show. As it is, they look lovely.

Great gift idea! I use a new dishcloth everyday, and then wash them at the end of the week! Much more sanitary that way :)

I think it's a great idea to use the leftovers for yours. Then they will remind you of the labor of love you did for Christmas giving.

I think the leftover set for you might be the most fun in the bunch!
